The model weight debate gets new poster girl

Extremely thin models are back in the headlines after a contestant on the newest cycle of America's Next Top Model was celebrated for having "the smallest waist in Top Model history". Put that onto a 6-foot-2-inch frame, and you have the most baffling physique I have ever seen, even compared to the fashion world norm of wafer-thin figures. Models are, as a rule, supposed to be freaks of nature, but even judge Miss Jay's eyes were bugging out of his head. Tyra, who herself seems to be shrinking with each new cycle, declared that she liked what she saw. Mr Jay playfully suggested that this model would make Miss Jay want to eat only TicTacs and watercress for the rest of the season. But it is this exact sentiment that is behind the argument of those who campaign against the use of models as thin as this contestant. We don't know yet if Miss Tiny Waist will make it into the competition, but seeing as courting controversy is what ANTM does best, we can probably bet she will. Bring on the top ratings.

**Tyra has since taken back her remarks, saying she hadn't seen how the clip was edited before it went to air. http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv/4032282/Tyra-Banks-takes-back-small-waist-claims
